Ceres-La Salle FC passed its first real test by winning 2-1 against a red hot Kaya FC. Two first half goals was enough cushion for the Bacolod squad who were quite lucky not to finish in a draw with Kaya.
Both teams were still undefeated before the match with Kaya having the momentum as they have not conceded in their first few games.
Kaya’s Louis Clark had the first shot of the game in the 3rd but his attempt went over the bar. Ceres pushed the tempo in the 11th with an Orman Okunaiya half chance.
Three minutes later, Patrick Reichelt put the Bacolod squad ahead with a rebound. In the 21st, the lead was doubled with a superb header from Adrian Gallardo with a cross provided by Reichelt.
Kaya FC pulled one back with an OJ Porteria goal in the 24th. Manny Ott had a shot saved by Kaya keeper Nick O’donnel in the 40th. The half ended with a score of 2-1 in favor of Ceres.
The second half started with a Chris Greatwich chance in the 47th but his finishing was not good enough for an equalizer. Porteria had a marvelous chance three minutes after but his attempt was saved by the veteran Louis Casas.
Just before the hour mark, Ceres’ Martin Steuble had a shot that rattled off the crossbar. The match became more intense as the physicality led to yellow cards being shown to both teams.
Gallardo had a chance to secure the win in the 64th but his header went straight to the post.
Ten minutes before the final whistle, Kaya substitute Joven Bedic has a marvelous chance but he missed a point blank opportunity to secure his clubs unbeaten run.
The match ended with Ceres winning their fourth straight game with the same halftime score. Both teams were dead even in possession while Ceres has a slim one shot advantage which sealed the finality of the match.
In next weeks fixtures, Ceres will face another tough side in Stallion FC while Kaya will be pitted against Pachanga-Diliman FC.
