TPP Blog: 2014 FIFA World Cup Semi-Final Preview

Brazil vs Germany

The loss of Neymar through a horrific injury and a suspension for Thiago Silva makes it difficult for the hosts in this semi-final. But I expect the home team to adjust well and give us one hell of a game. All eyes will be with Oscar as Neymar’s absence would allow the Chelsea midfielder more free reign to control the attack.

Germany will be able to bring back Phillip Lahm at his pre-designated role as holding midfield because of Neymar’s absence. The former first-choice right back has since been doing midfield duties to supplement the no striker formation of the team. Expect Goetze to start in place of Klose.

It’s really hard to play against an inspired home squad but the missing Brazilian captain would prove to be the focal point of attack of Die Mannschaft. Head over Heart will prevail as a performance similar to the Germany – Portugal group games is expected from the Germans.

FT Brazil 1 – Germany 2

Netherlands vs Argentina

Its Robben and Van Persie vs Aguero and Messi in the other sem-final and it will not be pretty.  Netherlands with their healthy mix of experienced and young players playing against and experienced but aged opponents. A battle of two defense-oriented but highly offensive teams will be really close.

The loss of Angel di Maria does not come at a much better time, but being replaced by a recently injured Kun Aguero will soften the blow.  Argentina’s defense is still untested against more experienced attacks this tournament and this will surely push them to the max. Expect Messi to be his usual self but it would be more like the quarterfinal game where di Maria (as a passing option) was surely missed.

The Orange team has been tested many times in this tournament both in the back line and up front.  I expect a rejuvenated Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder in this match with the young defensive line holding on.  Robben will be in his very best in breaking the Argentinean defense. Like I said, It will be close.

FT: Netherlands 1 –  0 Argentina

PS. I am still sticking to my final prediction
