A last minute strike from Chieffy Caligdong triggered an abrupt end for Ceres-La Salle’s run in the UFL cup. Finding himself one-on-one with La Salle’s youngest player, Park, Chieffy faked the youngster which gave him enough space to sneak in a goal in the bottom right corner.
The Bacolod based squad started out well with a 28th minute free kick from Jayson Panhay which slipped through the hands of National U23 keeper Patrick Deyto to open the scoring for the game. The Green Archers came back with an equalizer a five minutes later after Chieffy Caligdongs shot took a wicked deflection at the back of Ceres defender and into the goal.
Ceres-La Salle had the edge in the second half with shots and possession testing the steady Green Archers backline and goalkeeper. Byong Jun, Panhay, and Marasigan had chances only to be foiled by Deyto. The Ceres defense played their best game in the tournament only to yield to Chieffy’s right footed goal. That goal ultimately sealed Green Archers United place in the Semi Final against the fancied Loyola Meralco Sparks.
