Ceres-La Salle recovered from a poor first half to score 5 goals in the final 45 to beat Agila FC 7-2 Thursday night at the Emperador Stadium.
It was a shaky first half for the Bacolod-based team as they first conceded a goal from an Agila counter attack. Ceres quickly equalized but the Agila took the lead again from a free header off a corner kick. The defense of Agila, led by former Ateneo standouts Alvin Perez and Dexter Versario, was a tough nut to crack limiting the Ceres to very few shots. After settling their nerves and regaining control of the match, former USLS sensation Jayson Panhay delivered a brilliant left-footed free kick from the edge of the penalty box to level the game minutes before halftime.
Ceres-La Salle took control of the match at the start of the second half and took the lead with a header from a corner kick. More goals from Korean sensation Byeong Jun Yoon, Jayson Panhay, and subsititute Joshua Beloya came, with Beloya scoring on his first touch from a full sprint to chip the ball over the Agila goalkeeper. Ceres-La Salle closed the game with golden strike from the edge of the box at injury time to finish with seven goals.
The win officially secures their spot in the quarterfinals against a red hot Union team in two weeks time.
